Kevin, can you help me understand how to accomplish the false trombone glissando as written by Herr Berg?

First time I have come across such glissando's Joe so I cannot help you at the moment but I will look into this.

OK, now that we know how it might be done, just how difficult is it going to be? I guess the best thing to do is write it and seek out some trombone players! But, let me hypothesize. Say I wanted to gliss from A (top line bass clef) to A an octave below, or possibly from the A down to a Bb ( a B would be ok if it would bring it in the realm of doable) with the final A articulated. Is that something that would fit the guidelines put forth in the article? Of course, I have considered dividing the glissando between the 1st & 2nd players which could work if they can sync up well enough. Lastly, (and it will become even more obvious that my brass technique is sorely deficient) I assume, like a trumpet, the trombone can do some kind of fall (lip slur?). How far down would that get me? That was my original intent until of course the computer stepped in and played a flawless glissando anywhere I asked for it!

It cannot be split Joe. A can only go down to an E. If the second bone player picked it up from him he could only go down to a B. Generally speaking you would gliss to an indeterminate note and quickly shift to the ending note thus achieving a near gliss!

Glissing up from a note is easier as you can use the slide and your embouchure at the same time. Not a perfect gliss but something close.
