As an occasional contributor to ScoreExchange I have often wondered how you get featured on the Front page in one of the “Most sales/views/prints . . . in the last 6 weeks” boxes. Is it just a select few of the more prolific composers? Maybe it’s just coincidence but I always seem to see the same old faces nearly every time I tune in. Jerry Lanning and Johnny Jones immediately spring to mind, and occasionally er, Kevin Riley (who he?)
So imagine my delight when I saw myself featured recently in the ‘Percussion Ensemble, Pitched’ category. Around the same time I submitted another piece in a similar vein so I began to specifically check this category rather than wait for it to be randomly selected by ScoreExchange for the Front page. Much to my surprise I was being featured regularly for both pieces of music in each of the sales, views or prints sections. No doubt there aren’t that many contributors in this category, but, and here’s the rub, of the two pieces which I had submitted, the first piece, ‘Oriental Soup’, has achieved just one print and one sale in nearly two years, and the more recent piece, ‘Vibracity’ has yet to attract either print or sale. But still my name is up there in lights! My granny would be proud.
Maybe I’m late to the party but it seems we have to take these ‘league tables’ with a pinch of salt. Never mind, it’s all a bit of fun. Which best describes that recently submitted piece I just mentioned, ‘Vibracity’ - a duet for two vibraphones. Now I doubt there are many groups with two vibraphones at their disposal but I feel it could well be adapted to different instrumentation. Anyway, it’s the sort of music I enjoy writing - easy listening - (I can hear all the purists out there grinding their teeth). So while I’m here, I might as well invite you to check it out and perhaps comment.
Many thanks

PS As always, the MP3 does it more justice.
