Needing Help With Layout

Hello again folks,

I am currently reworking one of my string quartets for string orchestra and solo violin. I would like for the piece to start with the solo violin, a single violin and viola, with the cellos. Around Bar 9 I would like for the rest of the violins and violas to join in with the solo ones.

Does that make sense?


What would be the best way in going about this? Would I just put 'Solo' on top of the first violin part and the violas? Should I give them their own stave? I'm a bit lost!

Just add solo the. Tutti when they all come in. I am not sure if this affects the playback, maybe you can try?

It's been awhile since I've done this but I think what you need to do at the outset is set up ALL of the instruments. Then, along the way, you "hide empty staves". I would have to consult my manuals and notes from a Sibelius course that I took in order to explain how to do it, as it has been along time since I have done this myself. See if you can figure it out on your own Jamie; if you have problems, I will endeavour to help you a bit further.

Jamie, you can do an instrument-change and rename the added text. Also you can add new staves which are hidden in the score. When copying the lines into the other staves disable the playback for this passage.

add solo-violin, copy the content into the violin 1. Then select the bars and deselect the playback.
