Automatic chord input in Siberius?

Is there a way to get Sibelius to input the notes of a chord itself and get it to play back?

All I want to do is type in the chord for a guitar or piano, then write a solo part for another instrument and get it to play back. How do you achieve this in Sibelius?

Thanks for the reply! I can't join as I haven't bought the program yet and so don't have an activation code.
I don't know whether to get Siberius, Finale or Magicscore as I am not a professional composer, but a musician who simply wants chords of a piano or guitar inputted quickly and then write leads.

So I don't know if Siberius (which always gets the best reviews) is the one for me. In Band in a Box you can input chords easily and play along, I'm looking for a similar feature but of course with the ability to score.

Please explain what you mean by "type in the chord"?

A chord is simply the veritical aligment of more than one note. Sibelius will play back what ever notes you enter :-)

Now if you mean generate programmatically an accopanying part based on a chord name (id est Bb13 #9 #11), then I do beleive there are plug ins that do this. (Plugs that either ship with Sibelius or can be downloaded for free). But This is just going by memory as I do not use such features.

Ok, what I mean is, say I want a C major 7 for example, I don't want to input the notes of the chord on the staff one by one, but simply type this above the staff or use the in-built chord diagrams. In Band In A Box you simply type the chord "Cmaj7" in the bars and it plays it. This should be very simple as it's a feature that surely most writing musicians need?

I think the plugin Realguitar by MusicLab had chord recognition but maybe this is in Siberius 7 now??

I think that is a very bad assuption, it is not something most of us need or even desire.

That said, I do beleive that there are plug-ins that do this.

Do not be afraid when I say plug-in, as Sibelius makes use of may plug-ins for many things, most of the time you are quite unaware of them.

Ok, I'll do some more searching, I suppose I would have to use the virtual piano or guitar to make chords, ho hum...

If you are happy with the results from BIAB, I do not think Sibelius is for you. It is also somewhat pricey just to mark up lead sheets. Ditto for Encore. Surely there are less expensive programs you can use. I know for a fact you can do simple lead sheets in the latest versions of BIAB; post integration with PTPA.

There is a plug in called "Realize Chord Sybols" that does the job. It is in Sib 6 and 7.

By now I am sure you will have seen that what Sibelius does by way of chord realization is nothing like what you get from BIAB. But, if it meets your needs that is all that matters, right? Joseph

That's why I needed a program like Sibelius which meets my needs exactly. Got a cool violin score in no time.

I had the basic chords running underneath so that I could hear the song with the violin parts. The only thing I'm not happy with is that Sibelius doesn't hold a nice smooth violin note tied over 2 bars, must be the samples they use in the soundset. Anyway, this program is addictive...
