I didn't enter the competition as I don't really write for brass or have much interest in brass band music. I had planned to vote but frankly couldn't find two entries to vote for. I found the Pastoral Pieces had the most charm and would have gone for that if just one vote had been allowed. There seems to have been others voting who have not themselves entered so why are two votes forced?

two votes was a request (IMO) not a requirement . . . I voted as I saw fit, I am sure you could've done the same.

two votes was a request (IMO) not a requirement . . . I voted as I saw fit, I am sure you could've done the same.

Considering that Kevin stated in the 7th post that he was INSISTING that people vote for 2, it became more than a request.  IMO

I know I would have voted for only one had that been an option.

and therein lay the conundrum. As an entrant, Kevin's statement would seem to apply.  But, I chose not to vote for myself, letting others decide on its value. Had I cast two votes I can assure you the second vote would have been for myself based upon my taste in music (so overall it had no impact on the other entries' totals). When Mike said (and I paraphrase) "I cannot imagine voting for myself" I agreed (and that is why I asked if entrants were being asked NOT to vote for themselves).  So, to be true to the music, I cast one vote, abstaining from an additional vote for my music.  I initially pointed out to Kevin early on that I probably would not enter after reviewing  the publisher's on-line catalog.  My quintet would not fit in.  Though I had this piece only recently completed that fit the contests guidelines so I entered it, just out of curiosity (and was not surprised at the comments from - I expect - the publisher) . . .

You didn't write the other 4, so you could have voted for 2.  What a cop out.  No one else had a problem voting for 2, even if that meant voting for something they didn't particularly like or want to.

Not voting would have been the better choice and kept with the spirit of the competition.

The winning piece was my second choice, so had we been allowed to vote for only one, that piece might not have won, depending on how many people chose it as their second choice.
