Black History Month - Scott Hayden

Scott Hayden was a student of Scott Joplin. They wrote the “Sunflower Slow Drag” together, which I personally think is the greatest ragtime piece ever written. The piece is lively from beginning to end and definitely not a pure Joplin work. A “Slow Drag” is a dance style of the time. Scott had a short life: he was born in 1882 and died in 1915. He wrote several other rags with Joplin, all excellent. Ragtime did not seem to provide him with a successful career, he was an elevator operator when he died. I could not find a picture of him

Thanks Kevin, an interesting bio which I was not aware of. I am aware of all of his rags, of which the ones he wrote with Joplin I consider to be his best work
