There seems to be little activity on this board

I have posted several times over the last few days and have received no response. I also noticed that posts by others have gotten no responses. Is this board alive?

Well, others have asked the question in various ways, and why the situation has reached this point has thus far no satisfactory answer.  I would say You Tube, Facebook, and video games are part of the problem.  Also, the cult of the CELEBRITY is approaching or has passed the stage of being ridiculous.  Not to be overlooked, classical music has long been reviled as irrelevant, particularly by those who say it is all my composers of hundreds of years ago, and who have not the least knowledge of the twentieth or twenty first  century music.  I could rant on a bit, but not now.

Hi Gavin
I see where you are coming from with the comment on activity. Although there might only be a small amount of contributions here the forum has many guests that pass by. Sometimes these can be members that do not wish to log in but just browse the pages that are open to visitors. As for replies to postings that is always going to be down to each member. Looking at some of the big Facebook pages for composers etc the percentage of comments from members is not far off the same as here. Bearing in mind that we have less than 200 members at least we get some activity. And then there is always the competitions that we run here. How many other boards of a simlilar size have had members music sent to and accepted by music publishers?

Of course I would love to see more interaction here on SOS but I am just as happy that it ticks along nicely without mention of politics or cuddly cats!

borrowing from a recent post (and paraphrasing a bit) if I have nothing positive to offer I don't leave comments.  But I do read the majority of posts and sooner or later ALWAYS listen to music posted here (see sentence one).

I think you will see that the board goes in waves, sometimes there is little posting and then we might get a large number of post at one time.

For me it is 'If I have nothing constructive to offer I do not leave comments." And by that I mean not all constructive comments will be received a 'positive'. But I do do in in the spirit of challenging them and improving their skills and not in the spirit of mean spiritness

I do see some potential on this board. Kevin said there are only about 200 members here, which I did not realize. That is a low number of members and explains the (what seems to me) low level of activity. In the last few days there has been a little bit more activity, which I find encouraging. There are many interesting things to talk about regarding composition and I hope we will explore them. Thanks Richard, Kevin, Zepposnonno, and Ed for replying -
